Description

Becky has arranged the perfect bachelorette celebration - but an embittered maid of honor, party crashers, and a bathtub of booze send the night in a very wrong direction. A very dark and very funny look at friendship and betrayal on the way to the altar.

Bachelorette is the second installment by playwright Leslye Headland in her cycle, ‘The Seven Deadly Plays’ which was commissioned by the IAMA Theater Company in Los Angeles through the Artist in Residence program. Based on Dante’s Seven Deadly Sins, each play focuses on a mortal sin, using ultra-modern settings to shed light on the prevalence of the issues in modern society. Bachelorette reveals the perils of gluttony in the lives of three twenty-something girls during their debauchery filled with drugs, alcohol and men.

While the language is lewd and unapologetic, it offers an honest exploration into the over-privileged lives of the characters as they stumble from a rowdy bachelorette party into a substance-induced mess. Headland is quite definite that these are not morality plays despite her religious upbringing. Rather they show our susceptibility to vice, especially for the generation on the cusp of youth and adulthood.
